Forget all your worries, forget all your cares and go Downtown with AHS Friends
Enjoy Spectacular Sunset Views and City Lights at the Aloft Hotel

On Friday night, we're keeping it casual. We'll all gather at ALOFT around 7 pm -- a new downtown hotel right in the middle of the action. We'll have the privacy of our own swanky bar and a cool balcony overlooking Biltmore Avenue. People walking along will think they've gone to New Orleans and Mardi Gras when we wave at folks passing by below (maybe we should throw out strings of beads!) Since we have a lot of talented musicians among us, the Reunion Committee is hoping that you'll bring your instruments for a fantastic jam! We'll provide light hors d'oeuvres. There will be a cash bar.

Asheville has changed a lot since we graduated. For all you Tanglewood Children's Theater folks, the Aloft Hotel is located on Biltmore Avenue where we had plays in the old Thomas Wolfe Theater. Theater in the round and staging tunnels have now been replaced with impressive accommodations and events facilities at this hipster hotel.

Rockin' and rollin' and orange peelin'?

It's that time again when friends who graduated from Asheville High (70-71-72) get together for an official Reunion. Can you believe it's been five years since the last one? We are having our reunion on Friday and Saturday, August 19 and 20, 2016. Mark your calendars and make your reservations now. We're looking forward to a BIG turn-out and a FUN time getting re-acquainted and catching up with each other.

The Orange Peel has become a popular venue in Asheville for all kinds of musical events featuring national and regional musicians-- for instance, the Warren Haynes pre-jam (he's also an AHS grad, just a bit younger than us). Yet, we've been able to reserve the entire hall just for us on Saturday night from 7 pm - 11 pm. It has good acoustics and plenty of room for Asheville High alums. We'll be among the esteemed guests that have graced this venue. Aren't we special?!!!

Think back a few decades... remember that we grew up in the era of magnificent GARAGE BANDS? Well, some of them have continued to have successful musical careers. BZZZ bzzz! Our featured band for our reunion is Houseband, most recently affiliated with 96.5. A couple of the talented guys (Class of 1969) had their beginnings in Bee Bumble and the Stingers -- Steve Stewart (drums) and Bruce Caldwell (saxophone). It's amazing how these guys haven't lost a beat and still get the crowd dancing to oldie-goldie tunes from our generation. So, we'll kick up our heels and twirl around to this familiar group of exceptional musicians. With a playlist that spans nearly four decades of hits, the dance floor is a popular place when the Houseband comes around. And if you’re not dancing, you’ll be singing along!

Our dinner menu is down-home with a touch of class for all the classes -- Prime Rib carved to order and BBQ with all the fixin's. Let us know if you have special dietary issues and we'll provide some alternatives.

Help us get the word out! Post on social networks and encourage friends to join us for an awesome weekend. We need email or snail mail addresses for folks that missed out in previous years. Please join our efforts to locate classmates from 1970-71-72. We have a long list of folks to try and find.

It's okay if you want to bring along siblings or good friends that are older or younger but space is limited so we're not doing an open invitation to anybody and everybody that has attended AHS.

The cost per person for both nights is $75. Early reservations and ticket purchases will be appreciated as we place deposits for the event venues.

If you want to live it up in a hotel, Aloft is the official downtown hotel and the Hampton Inn on Tunnel Road is our 2nd option. Both hotels are offering price reductions for our AHS Reunion attendees. The room rate for ALOFT is $289 per night and the Hampton Inn is $189 per night. BTW, the Hampton Inn is owned by John Winkenwerder, Class of 1975. Reservations can be made through this Reunion site or directly through each hotel.

SEE Y'ALL IN AUGUST! Share reunion news and drum up interest among your friends.

More informal gatherings may happen once we all get together. Anybody up for a tour of downtown on the LaZoom Purple Party bus? It would cost about $28 per person. Other ideas welcome if you want to help organize a rafting/kayaking trip, for example. Maybe it's been a while since you visited the Biltmore House. Let us know and the Reunion Committee will help organize and publicize side trips or events.

Most likely, we'll schedule a group photo op on Saturday on the steps of Asheville High as in years past. More info coming as the plans continue to gel.
